They are falling behind and there will be that program that comes along and makes them obsolete. Whatever their problem is, which appears to be lack of skill in the windows environment, they need to address it. Churches are forced to keep running on very outdated hardware on Mac computers, due to budgets, just to get propresenter to run half way properly. The reality of the world is, the PC environment is much richer, with much better hardware, at a fraction of the cost. ![]() It just lacks proper implementation and care for the customers, unless they are Mac users. They are doing a great disservice to the customers, which is sad really as conceptuall, it’s a nice design and layout. As a retired systems analyst and programmer, I can see their lack of skill when it comes to the windows platform. Having to spend a small fortune on such outdated hardware as a Mac, in order for it to run smoothly, and charge the price they charge for the program, well, lacks professionalism. They need to get out of the Mac mode they seem to be stuck in and seem to love and realize what their customers needs are. ![]() It doesn’t appear to be designed in windows to take advantage of the more advanced hardware, which is so readily available. I don’t think they have the experience of programming properly in the windows os. For such a major program, one, they need to be in 64bit mode. It’s bad enough on a Mac at times but much worse on a pc.

Some studies have shown the equation by MD Miffin and ST St Jeor to be more accurate here, while the Harris Benedict equation was created in 1919 and has historical significance. Similarly to the above formula by MD Miffin and ST St Jeor, weight is in Kilograms, height is in centimeters and age is in years. s is a factor to adjust for gender and adopts the value +5 for males and -161 for females.Īs an alternative method of calculation, the Harris Benedict equations adopt separate equations for men and women as follows:īMR = (13.7516 x weight + 5.0033 x height – 6.755 x age + 66.473) kcal/dayīMR = (9.5634 x weight + 1.8496 x height – 4.6756 x age + 655.0955) kcal/day Here, weight is in Kilograms, height is in centimeters and age is in years. The equation introduced by MD Miffin and ST St Jeor is as follows:īMR = (9.99 x weight + 6.25 x height – 4.92 x age + s ) kcal/day These equations allow an approximation of your BMR to be computed from the above data. There are various methods to calculate an estimate of your BMR and the calculator will return two estimates based on the formulas developed by MD Mifflin and ST St Jeor as well as the Harris-Benedict equation. You could very quickly use up at least 10 tracks nowadays for just drums, So this version has huge limitations here. The number of tracks is always important when making music I think, as I try and go past 16 tracks it stops me. But it’s a tiny taste of what the full version can offer. Same goes for the EQ, It’s awesome and I use it all the time in the full version in pretty much every record I make. Starting with the compression, It’s great for beginners, but you’ve only got one to choose from, really basic stuff. The plugins are simple, nothing really going on here. It does let you freeze midi like the full version which is cool for space saving but then again, you can’t do anything with frozen MIDI. This is essential for any creative producer to be original and unique from the get-go. This is quite annoying as you really can’t do anything creatively with MIDI editing tools the same way as with audio. When I try to bounce the MIDI to audio it won’t let me. There is one big drawback with this version though. I feel that Pro Tools have really stepped up its game with MIDI in the past few years. The MIDI is the same as the full version which is great, very easy to use and familiar. They’ve also included a load of free bundled loops available which is useful for getting any project started. Not only that but when trying to import a third-party virtual instrument just for kicks I’m quickly shut down, they don’t allow this so it’s Xpand or nothing. Xpand is the only synth available and there’s no option for another virtual instrument which is a little disappointing. It’s my go-to instrument for songwriting or starting most projects. You can see that there are very few Pro Tools First plugins. It’s a really great soft synth, you can pretty much reach for any instrument you could think of, but at this point, I’m really missing the piano that comes with the full version. On loading an instrument track I notice the only option I have is Xpand. ![]() ![]() All in all, it’s very similar, just slightly fewer options on some of the main functions as I look around quickly. A little different from the full version as expected, and maybe slightly cheaper looking, I’m talking specifically about the faders still cool but looks like a slightly older version. On opening the free version of Pro Tools software it looks great. I’ve owned a few from the Mbox family, But there are loads on the market which do the same job. You also plug your headphones and speakers into it. You don’t need anything crazy to start off with, Pro Tools make some really great ones. The audio interface converts the digital signal into audio files. This simply is something you plug your mic and guitars/keys/bass or whatever you want into. Avid has some helpful information online on how to activate pro tools’ first licenses using the iLok Cloud.īefore you start using the software you need some sort of audio interface. However, you can use the Pro Tools First app without this. ![]() Also, If you’re using Avid and want to use the full version of Pro Tools First, iLok is a requirement, so keep that in mind. If you are new to this though, you’ll need to do create a Pro Tools First sign-up/account. ![]() I already have a Pro Tools account so everything was really fast for me to set up. Although, it would be a good idea for you to look up the Pro Tools First system requirements before you go ahead. All you need is an email and you’re good to go. So I really like the simplicity of the Pro Tools First download from the Avid marketplace, It’s quick and easy, with no faffing around. I’m using a MacBook Pro 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 and an Apollo Twin, two pretty industry-standard hardware systems for running any music software. Firstly, I’m going to be testing Pro Tools on Mac. Yes, it is genuinely free! All you will need to do is enter your email and create an account but we’ll get into that below… First Thoughts on Pro Tools First Pro Tools First is the free version of Pro Tools. |
